Basically, Kai "replaces" the original version of Dragon Ball Z in that it literally is the same show, just cut down and remixed a bit. The Dragon Ball TV series adapts the first 190-ish chapters of the manga, while Dragon Ball Z (and of course Kai) adapted the rest.Mar 7, 2016

Kai omits most of the filler present in Dragon Ball, keeping only what would be too difficult to trim. This does mean Kai fans didn't get to see Piccolo and Goku learn how to drive, but it also mean the story never abruptly stops in-between big events.Aug 15, 2022

  • In my opinion, Dragon Ball Z Kai is far and away the best version of the series. There are several aspects that I wish to bring up. The first is the pacing. Kai is much, much, much better paced than the original show. The original was very slow. Goku's fight with Frieza is a great example. I love that fight, but it goes on way too long in DBZ.
