A light novel (ライトノベル, raito noberu) is a style of Japanese young adult novel primarily targeting high school and middle school students. The term "light novel" is a wasei-eigo, or a Japanese term formed from words in the English language. Light novels are often called ranobe (ラノベ) or, in English, LN.

Light novels share a lot of themes, tropes, and style with the broader YA genre of literature. Another feature of light novels is that they are often serialised, rather than standalone works. Some of the best light novels go on for as long as some manga, spanning dozens of volumes.Dec 31, 2021

The light novel is going to end with Volume 18 sometime in the future, while the manga and the anime are still ongoing, with no predetermined ending date.
